The concept for this exhibition began when New York native Jessica Lewandowski, and Oaxacan native Hugo Rojas met while taking up residency at an artist’s collective located in New York City.  After six months of creative collaboration she followed his steps in the opposite direction when given the opportunity to work in Oaxaca.  The transition from one culture to another inspired the artists attempt to capture the symbolic changes that one goes through when crossing borders both interpersonal and intercontinental. In these works of art they question how much of our personality is transient, how much is left behind, and if it’s possible that the answers be revealed in black and white? The use of black and white is both reinforcement and mockery of the changes in self-image that come as a result of environmental influence.
